This is such a tired take. He gets people enthusiastic about exciting or fun things in tech. Not every tech channel or influencer needs to deep dive analytics or details. Even so, they sometimes do exactly that.
Like him/them or not, they have advanced repairablity, spotlighted unethical behavior, and made useful guides for things like ad-blocking and piracy.
The paradox is that your traffic is so unique that it can be compared to traffic captured from other websites you’ve visited and be used to build a profile around your commonly visited websites and current interests.
That fingerprint is then sold to brokers that forward to websites that will serve targeted content to your fingerprint when you do happen to show up. It doesn’t necessarily care what your identity is just that you have an identity.

I don’t think that’s true. I’m pretty certain all of my domains are HTTPS only, but maybe that’s because I own the domain? Does cloudflare offer free domain names for tunneled traffic?
Could be worse. This summer IT replaced all of our desktop mini PCs with Chromeboxes and ChromeOS. I don’t even have privileges. Any software I would want to install would have to come from google play store and requires admin level privileges. I normally download the desktop app to play Spotify on my computer, but can’t even do that. I can’t even change the fucking desktop background. The ONLY software freedom I have is chrome extensions and even that is a walled garden of Google’s making. Manifest v3 is going to make using my desktop nearly impossible compared to the freedom I have at home.
Honestly they could probably just take the damn thing out of my office at this point. I really only use it for documentation or continuing education so I could just use my personal laptop or go back to pen and paper for that. Anything else I would have done in my downtime at work can just wait until I get home.

Now that I actually seem to have a handle on all this…mind you, I’m no expert, but I can walk people through it in plain english. I eventually ended up switching to Proton VPN and use cloudflare tunnels to access my services from outside the network.
Tailscale has native clients for all the major TV OS’. And I’m not whitelisting public networks for my friends’ convenience. If they’re traveling, they use tailscale with their mobile device or not at all. If you’re talking about IP spoofing that’s not a realistic vulnerability concern for a home media server.
At least I know the potential attack vectors for my Jellyfin server and can mitigate potential security concerns.

No, but that’s easy to setup with Tailscale or a myriad of other solutions for free.
How is Plex significantly better than Jellyfin at those things? I can just create a user in 2 seconds on the admin dashboard for Jellyfin, set a temporary password and my friend can log in and change it to whatever they want.
I can even limit the streaming bitrate to the account if I need to avoid bandwidth issues.

You’re right. It was the whole Linux kernel but it was published in the official repo for Debian so criticism for Ubuntu seems hypocritical
I don’t have a horse in the race, because Linux anything is better than the alternatives but I do think its funny that this infographic says Ubuntu has pushed malware through apt, but makes no mention of the XZ backdoor for Debian
