Arch was the “elite” distro. Most people who weren’t already very comfortable with the terminal were even able to use arch properly. Stuff like archinstall didn’t exist back then and those that did were way inferior than what we have today. So using arch was like a “badge of honor” of sorts for many people who thought using it made them superior to disgusting ubuntu or mint users with their GUI installer.

It’s just classic gatekeeping that you’ll see in basically everything that comes with a passionate community.

Where are those people whose arch installs break after every second update? I don’t think I had a single problem with arch that I wasn’t responsible for. Hell, I had more problems with mint on my girlfriends PC than the arch machines that I’m running.

I don’t mean this in any mean way, but if you don’t know what you should be looking for, you probably shouldn’t install AUR packages. Just as I wouldn’t recommend someone who has never climbed a mountain to try mt everest.

You need to be able to understand the build process before you install anything from the AUR. Everything else is the equivalent of installing random exe’s you found on a forum on windows.

Luckily, there’s a lot of different videos online regarding the AUR build process, and the archwiki has an excellent article aswell.

Honestly, since I switched to vim and got through the first month of “why the fuck am I doing this to myself”, I just can’t go back. Especially once you get to customizing it, installing plugins, themes etc … it’s better than any IDE out there.

That’s complete nonsense. While people were (mostly) writing applications by hand for each, companies have been automating this process for over 10 years at this point, way before LLMs were even a thing.

At this point, it’s your fault if you comply.

I think that depends on the setting, I had situations where one of my docker containers took ages to shutdown and it would just say 00/02 00s but when it reached that limit, it would just go up.

In general, it should work. Since M.2 slots are usually wired to PCIe and networkcards will usually also be attached to PCIe, I don’t see why not. However, personally I’d probably not use something from aliexpress for this purpose.

It has gotten big publicity because microslop apparently helped the glowies to track down a criminal and they did that by tracking his movements through this device id, which made people aware of that.

Everyone with a functioning brain knew that microslop was doing this one way or the other for years, but having a case backed with facts probably made them more aware that this was still a thing.

I usually check fonts because generative AI is still really bad at consistently creating those. And if I look at all the monster fonts, they are all 100% identical, something that I have barely ever seen with AI Slop. Even the text between the fingers of the girl with the black can is, from what I can tell, matching what the font would look like.

On top of that, many details that AI would miss are present. The left girl at the front, that tiny bit of skin left of her arm - I’m very confident most AIs would’ve completely missed that and just painted it black. The only thing that makes me wonder is at the top right, above the girls weapon, this bright rounded block. I can’t really make out what that is, but that might just be an artifact from the compression or a badly cut out watermark.

It’s popular to hate systemd. Just as it’s popular to hate PHP. It makes people feel like they’re part of an “elite group” that are above these things. Most of the time, people can’t even explain why they hate it. Just ask someone why he hates systemd and in 95% of all cases, you won’t get a straight answer, except, of course: “It ViOlAtEs LiNuX pHiLoSoPhY” yes timmy and how does that affect you while browsing and playing games, because that’s all you do on your PC.

I’m not saying that there are no reasons to dislike systemd for some people. There might be a handful of them who genuinely dislike it and have justified reasons for it. However, an overwhelming majority of the people that hate it don’t even have a fucking clue what it is, let alone why it’s dislikeable, they just read on twitter or reddit that it sucks. And that’s it. It’s a bit like a big streamer saying: “Game XYZ is shit” and a majority of that streamers following will think its shit.

Reminds me of that dumbass company a few months ago that used claude and it tried to fix some bug, found some API key with full permissions and deleted the entire volumes of the server, including the backups. Instead of saying: “Goddamn AI is fucking stupid never again” like a sane human being, the CEO blamed the server provider for “not putting enough guardrails in check”.

The question is, what is stopping you?
