I’d recommend pangolin on a vps and skipping cloudflare. It makes the tunnel super simple. Just make sure to harden then VPS.

Another commenter in another thread said essentially just put the duress pin in your wallet with nothing else about what it is. Then say nothing about what that pin is. Then let them try it. Probably will get the same result because you didn’t “warn” them or something, but it would be a harder case as you didn’t tell them to put it in.

Yeah, I keep getting myself blocked because of something I’m hosting is giving a lot of false positives. I suppose I’ll have to dig into it at some point. For now I just whitelist the IPs I use.

Maybe some day, don’t break what isn’t broken (for now).

Proton will so smtp if you’re on one of the paying plans. You can get your own domain setup to use with it. This is what I do. I just had to contact them to get it setup, they ask a few questions about usage, which I just said was self hosting stuff and sending occasional emails.

For my use case, I can’t get it to autoplay the next podcast. I would need to setup a playlist or something. The Web version does this just fine, just not the app. I’ve been playing with Absorb and that seems to do this, though in Android Auto mode it breaks occasionally. Can’t speak for this app. Maybe I’ll try it and see.

I put my uptime kuma on the VPS to monitor my home infrastructure from the outside. Let’s me know when things go down much more reliably.

In my opinion, it’s (the service) self-hosted and not home-hosted. Hardware is just a platform.

I came up with a domain just for my simplelogin addresses. I see no reason not to unless you don’t want to pay for a second domain.

I’ve found that if I set primary as pihole and secondary as, say 1.1.1.1. then, my android phone will pick either one seemingly randomly. So my local DNS doesn’t work.

My workaround was to do two pihole. I forget how I sync them though.

That might be good for phones, but it seems like they want one of the external tracker devices. Those are only good if you have a large network of people locating items (unless you just want to find things in your house)

Over cloudflare, it’s knowing you’re the man in the middle and not some company. It has a few other things like zero trust, and an authentication layer.

I use racknerd for VPS and it’s about $35/year. So definitely one of the cheapest part of my home lab.

I’m using Pangolin, which is the current hotness. It’s somewhat like cloud flare tunnels, but you need a VPS (find a cheap one). That tunnels back to your house. I opted into using crowdsec as another later. It’s a part of their setup process.

FYI, I had to compensate on the bed heater to compensate for the extra mass and thickness. I don’t remember how much, but not a ton. Plus a little longer of a wait to let the heat saturate before starting the print.

Mine has a magnetic layer that adheres to the existing bed. Then the PEI plat sticks to that.

It might be worth looking at the devices, but some of the ring stuff is ZigBee/wave (not sure which) and will play reasonably well with home assistant. This might offer some reuse of the equipment.
