Not trying to defend Israel, fuck 'em all to death, but there’s a whole lot of metaphor in both the biblical plague of the firstborn and this tweet, and neither are talking about murdering children.
First of all, firstborn didn’t necessarily mean children, it just referred to a families first son who would inherit their wealth.
The author of Exodus used “firstborn” figuratively to refer to both Egypt’s upper class, who inherited and upheld the system of slavery, and the Israelites, as God’s chosen people. Pharaoh wouldn’t set God’s “firstborn” free, so God kills Pharaoh’s “firstborn”. Eye for an eye biblical morality.
Also, the plague before that was three days of darkness, so he’s making a legit reference, not just randomly threatening to kill babies.
Also also, none of that stuff happened and the Israelites were never even in Egypt! themoreyouknow.jpg
I think the trouble is that whether or not your explanation is true, this tweet is still supporting a genocide so it’s kind of like… 🤷♂️ he might not have had children in mind specifically when he typed this, but they’re killing kids anyway so what does that matter?
Right, but other people in the thread were jumping to the conclusion that the tweet was referring specifically to killing children. It’s not, and if it was presented as such, a bad actor could argue, as I did, that the guy’s not a child murdering Nazi because of this metaphor.
It’s bad enough that they’re using an ancient book to justify genocide. No need to sensationalize everything, it just weakens your argument.

Of course. Religion had to offer the currently-opressed people some story of better times. “Look: this great totally-made-up-thing happened! And it will happen again” is a good way of keeping hope in an opressed population. If they wait, god might reward them in kind.
Saying “we’ll do that totally-made-up-thing” when murdering kids and civilians?
The destruction of the firstborn sons of Egypt was something that the previous Pharaoh had visited upon the people of Israel 80 years earlier when the Egyptian army killed all the newborn sons of Israel two years old and younger (Exodus 1:16).

Not nearly as forgivable.
Did the Pharaoh not kill every single male Jewish child?

That’s not the firstborn and has nothing to do with the plagues?
Look, all I’m saying is this tweet isn’t explicitly talking about killing kids like everyone else in the thread is saying.
Again, fuck Israel. They are killing children. But that’s not what this guy is tweeting about.
A bit of a distraction but: Elephantine?
You are dilusional with all those ridiculous interpretations
