The actual worst kind of human

I just had to replace a 4tb drive with a mfgyr of 2016 from a customer’s Synology box.
I couldn’t get SMART data off it because it wouldn’t initialize to do a test, but the thing was damn reliable right up until it went kaput.

PiHole on old laptops started the journey for me
Now I’ve got all sorts of things, most visible are Plex and Audiobookshelf. The most useful to me personally is Headscale for what at I assume are obvious reasons.
I’d like to use Matrix more but that requires some buy-in from friends.
I ostensibly use this as a means of continued education for myself, but really it’s because I enjoy using/learning about open-source software and creating my own ecosystem outside of “big tech”
I’ve got it all set up in a way that really works for me, which is all that really matters in the end.
I’ve heard… Legends… Of the cursed cheese grater art.
You don’t wanna know. Trust me.

Yeah I just set up Headscale via YuNoHost recently
So far so good. Might actually consider setting up Jellyfin now that I have a better, and freer remote access solution in place.
Plex is just so goddamn convenient sometimes
Vivaldi best browser and I’ll die on that hill
(I know it’s Chromium based and only semi open but damnit the UI/UX just work for me)

ABS is actually quite easy if you already have a library for audiobooks on Plex
Just install ABS on the same box and point it at the same folder and it will do most of the rest itself
Remote access is a bit of a pain though. I’m using tailscale for it. I wish there was a better, more universal (also free) 2fa solution out there but it just doesn’t exist.

No real changes other than adding some more media to Plex that I need to watch
Part of me loves knowing that I own that media library and that I can’t lose stuff at the whim of a company, the other part dreads having an endless backlog 😅

That’d be super nice
Maybe I could enable fast boot and a couple other settings I’ve been meaning to change

One more reason for me to fucking hate Zuckerberg.
Add it to the pile at this point…
I wish it was stable
I had a drive die yesterday
Fellow Windows-to-Bazzite migrant here
I had to use the terminal to address some Nvidia driver weirdness, but aside from that, I really don’t use it much if at all.
The terminal feels to me like it did on Windows - a useful tool to troubleshoot things - rather than a necessity.
This is also coming from someone who isn’t uncomfortable using a CLI, but just prefers GUI for my day-to-day tasks.
As a Linux user and sysadmin: I fully agree. Death to Adobe.
As someone who lives in our current corporate hellscape: unfortunately Adobe software is one of if not the biggest software hurdle preventing Linux adoption for a lot of people. Getting their suite working, even if it’s only older versions, would be a huge boon for us.
In the US we pronounce ‘lever’ with a soft E (as in yellow) rather than a hard E sound (as in green) like you do in the UK.
Just another one of those weird US vs UK English things, but that pronunciation makes the joke work.

They’re doing the societal version of “I could shoot someone on 5th Avenue”

“learned some things like Linux, command line, docker, and networking/pfsense” “I don’t consider myself technical”
Don’t sell yourself short, I work in IT and have colleagues on our helpdesk who would struggle endlessly with those concepts.
I hereby dub you a tech person, like it or not, those skills can and do pay the bills.
There are some attempts to diagram it out online but it really just doesn’t make sense imo
