I NEED. YOU HERE WITH ME. NOT WAY OVER IN A BUCKET SEAT.
I love CAKE, definitely my favorite band. Did you know they give out tree saplings at their concerts?

Depending on your location it can actually be geolocated into your specific city block, I geolocated an online friend’s IP just for the hell of it (I already knew where they lived) and it spit back out the city block they lived in as well as a lot of other very identifiable information
Also, if you can ping devices on that network using that IP you can also use that as a way to easily identify users. That’s if they have anything that isn’t firewalled, obviously, but the point stands!
This could also be the alternate plot to Iron Lung
They actually do count it but it’s only visible to the uploader
Also, from what I understand about specifically ReturnYoutubeDislikes it counts dislikes FROM people using the extension and uses that to extrapolate from the visible like count. I haven’t seen the video though so it’s definitely possible that’s all bunk

Except windows doesn’t ever actually shut down after the reboot if you tell it to “update and shut down” lmao
I’m convinced Gboard does this, it’ll always suggest grammatically incorrect words, or the wrong tense, or a word that just doesn’t make sense there in the sentence. My favorite part is when I type 75% of a word, see the CORRECT completion as the center suggestion, then tap it and it’s picked some random variation of that word (made plural, made past tense, etc.)
And it ALMOST ALWAYS autocorrects “live” to “love”, and “in” to “on”
I couldn’t type on a smartphone without autocorrect though, so it’s a lose lose situation getting rid of it or keeping it!
That’s awesome, I’d love to get a system like that going for my generator. Good luck with that, if you end up doing it!
What’s the insulation situation in your house? I didn’t build mine and the previous owner who did used Styrofoam and cinder blocks so it’s a losing battle keeping it climate controlled 95% of the time (alongside no central ducts at all minus the chimney)
It can be pretty great, but you really do need to treat it differently than you would on the grid!
For example: at night, making sure you don’t leave lights on, not running heavy loads like the microwave for very long, etc.
The good news is that as the old expensive equipment gets phased out, it gets easier and cheaper to DIY your off grid (or emergency backup) system!
For real, I have wood stoves (and propane heaters a supplemental) for winter heat so luckily a little less load on my system! This past winter was so cold here I had to get a subzero sleeping bag and put a living heater (my dog) inside of it because even the wood stoves couldn’t keep up
I have mini splits but because of the sun situation I couldn’t run them on heat without burning through my power/spending hundreds of dollars on gas for the generator!
As someone who’s house is entirely powered by solar, I love the long days! I also do a lot of outside work so the extra hours of daylight really help me there too
During winter it was so overcast and cloudy that I had to run a generator almost the entirety of the season
A similar vein as this, at work I was talking about a heat gun:
“Look, the feet are molded into the cable so if you break it you have to buy theirs!”
I then pull the cable out to show it as an example and snap
I didn’t realize it had a retention clip at all, so I lightly pulled it and snapped the thin plastic holding it in. I thought it was held in by friction.
Oops.

Yeah, I do
I have a shark matrix and it does pretty good, of course it has the same issue with the corners though! I definitely don’t recommend roombas for pet hair, I have a long haired dog and the roomba would usually just roll up the hair into balls and deposit them in random areas on carpet. The shark doesn’t seem to do it (and also has a bristle brush and not rubber, which I anecdotally think is better)
Breaking news: first cloud based malware installed through “insecure gcode” causes 3D printer to 3d print legs and attempt to rise up against owner/operator
There are mopping robots, I have a Braava by irobot
Be warned: that specific model (M6) cannot clean the inside of corners! I’m sure there are newer (and nicer ones) that can do that, since irobot has been super behind the curve for a long time
On the other hand there are now combo vacuum/mop robots but idk if those mop corners very well since I don’t have one
When I first saw that I was like “great, I have a virus”
Nope, just Windows
Almost every time I restart my Windows PC from an update, it sits on the “closing apps screen” or “restarting” screen then gives up completely and I have to force it to shut down/restart
And, just about every other time I restart with an update, it closes apps and then just fully shuts down after the update!
It’s super graceful! 😭
