  • I understand your point for Independent Password Managers. For some people this is not a solution. I would always recommend a password managers that fits your needs and know-how. My parents could not use keepass with sync without breaking or loosing shit. But protonpass, or Bitwarden or strongbox could be a viable option. In some rare cases I would even recommend Apple Passwort App. Better than nothing.

The problem is, that nearly no OS is perfect. Even grapheneOS and copperheadOS. If a three letter agency wants to get access to the systems running a privacy OS, they will somehow get it. Who should block the door to the devs home? They raid them, acquire the signing keys with their methods and deploy a backdoor in the next OTA update.

It is always about thread level and alternative options. If they get Apple, you move to Android, then to graphene, then to sailfishOS and whatever comes next. If you care about it. But the thing is…. Who cares? Privacy and security enthusiast, for sure. Freedom of the press people? Hopefully But these people don’t always know about that shit, and those are to protect.

  • I have used sailfishOS back in 2019 on my XA2. I used it without license (demo basically) without knowing it. Was familiar enough with Linux to update and manage apps by myself. But all in all. It was a nice year with that phone. Many problems are fixed by now. I wanted to use it with a pebble back then but I could not get one at that time. I switched later to GrapheneOS and bought a Pixel 3. Why? More Privacy/Security Features. But I miss my handy Linux terminal…. Also leaned a little Qt to Programm or fix simple apps on Sailfish. My XA2 got now a license for SailfishOS and lies in my drawer since I sometimes want to test apps

  • I don’t disagree with that. It’s just that most browsers are built that way, unfortunately. Nothing is free, not even Firefox. If you want to sell it, it’s hard to maintain reasonable expectations that people won’t just build it from source instead of buying it. Something 100% free can’t maintain itself over long time.

  • I have an old pentium laptop N3520 with 4GB DDR3. I removed everything and put it in a receiver box 1U size. It consumes so little energy that it can run 5-7 hours from its battery (I call it build in USV). Last time I measured 3-7w. Also passiv cooled , no noise. Another machine I use , is with a i7 4770 with 16GB for Proxmox, 7-20w , peak is much higher but rarely used , only on boot and vm startup.
