For desktop useage, fair enough; though, keep in mind that linux started and still is a server os primarily. DEs started out for the developers to have the ability to have some GUI on the side as well, no reason to hate themselves for no reason. I use arch for desktop useage, not server useage, and I’m aware that I’m the insane one, and linux being the even more insane one for actually working for what it’s not even designed for. DE’s are a GNU thing and all that, but still a bunch of packages made to be modular by default rather than well integrated for a specific experience. So while it is up to the developers to develop their packages, it’s the distro maintainers to make it user-friendly for desktop useage; where if something is really needed, someone will make it - if noone makes it, the suggestions of popular demand will be enough motivation for someone to make it sooner or later. I often feel bad for relying on the “someone”, which is why we donate, to show appreciation and support the things we love.

We all live in the same world and any positive contribution to anything will ultimately contribute positively to other things, the domino effect; perhaps even the thing you wish you could contribute to directly but “can’t”. People who care, who try, who persist despite the pain and hardship, who try to do their best, who learn and improve and find that kind of lifestyle fitting for them - are those who contribute to all they’re aware of as well as not.

By opening a bread factory, bread in your area gets cheaper > more supply > your area imports less > some other country with an open source contributor exports less > that country has more supply > it’s cheaper for that developer to buy bread

A silly made up example that may not exactly be right itself with the too many factors accounted for, but you get the point. Indirect contribution is contribution as well. This applies to all kinds of contribution, which is why a someone with good intentions that improves themselves in whatever way is a contributor as well.

What my point is, and of the original comment (if I’m not mistaken) is that doing your best truly and genuinely is enough. If you want to REALLY optimise your edging, I suggest getting into gentoo and learning how to compile most optimally for your system. It’s a lot of time, but think of all the edging efficiency you can gain from that. You might even have more edging per edging if you get deep enough!
