I am old, I have used windows for around 20 years. I am also a geek. I tried Mac OS a long time ago - not geeky enough and the hardware was too expensive for me back then.

Tried Linux several times. It was fun, but I had too many issues, up until now.

In my opinion if you plot user friendliness over time for Linux and windows, the Linux is going up on the friendliness axis, slowly but steadily. Windows on the other hand… Goes somewhere. Every good idea MS devs have is countered by 3 terrible (for users) from the marketing department.

I want to be the owner of my own PC. I want to control everything, windows was good enough a few years ago, but it is not anymore, the cloud integration plus AI bulshit, plus bloatware.

I worked as a graphics designer / DTP specialist more than 20 years ago. Back then Adobe products were really good. Photoshop was already a monopoly but there were different products for vector graphics and publishing (InDesign was a new contender back then), I tried them and went back to Adobe. It’s sad reading how they were able to enshitificate all their products so utterly and completely during that time.

Regional? The very top of the federal government is stepping in when the states are trying to limit the data centers.

I also switched from win 10, but I must use Win11 at work and I hate it. I decided to never switch to 11 on my private computer. Especially that I would need to buy a new PC, MS found my hardware unworthy of their new system. After a tenth reminder from Microslop I decided to install Linux. It’s my third try with Linux and it’s better than the previous one by miles. The only thing that I couldn’t get to work so far is M$ Teams, and I’m happy about it.

One of them is a good boy, and is proud of themselves, the others are billionaires and deep inside they know they are useless.

They already have four. What they need is one which supports 100% of the features, is easy to use and selected by default. They might keep other more advanced UIs but forcing new users to select UI as a first step, before they can do anything in the software is just plain stupid.
