  • Watching LotR in a packed theater, get to the part where Frodo gets just speared in the back by that bigass spider. I wasn’t prepared for that fatality so I let out an involuntary mini-laugh/snort. Guy directly behind me, as loud as he can, screams “Shut the fuck up!” directly into my ear. Murmurs of agreement all around.

Dude just basically assaulted a kid who was quiet the whole rest of the movie, but OK.

  • My brother and both of my parents will not stop talking about youtube premium with me. My brother is definitely smug about it. We’ve hit all the talking points: How easily ublock origin solves ads completely. How it’s a moral imperative to deprive Google of as much money as possible. How sending one month’s fee directly to the creator or buying their merch is infinitely more supportive.

They’ve never rebuffed any of that and just kind of change the subject. And less than 24 hours later we’re back to a beamingly proud “I got YT premium man, I’m telling you it’s so worth it. You should get it!”

I think next time I visit, the first time my brother brings it up (probably within an hour of arriving), I’m going to force him to acknowledge that we’ve had the conversation before. What YT Premium does to a mf, smh.

  • My landlord had to cut a hole in my bathroom roof, and they taped plastic over the hole promising to come back later and patch it. Every time there’s an air draft the plastic rustles, and since I had forgotten all about it I was half convinced I was haunted.

  • I just wish more of the inevitable billionaires exploiting me delivered common sense services that work the way one would imagine with Econ 101 logic. I’m so tired of integrated AI tools no one asked for and an overwhelming majority don’t want. Let me overspend on a damn fridge without connecting it to the internet. Why does my vacuum have proprietary, non-reusable bags?

  • He could easily fleece his users in so many ways if he wanted to. Many of us are in so deep with Steam that it would take something truly heinous to pry us away from our game libraries, and the next-best service to Steam is absolute dog shit.

Saying he can’t make more evil, exploitative choices because it would be bad business ignores the fact that nearly every modern company makes evil, exploitative choices no matter how little business sense it makes. Honestly, I’m exhausted by just how rarely companies act in their own self interest and just let us continue giving them money instead of shooting themselves in the foot.
