Not what you’ve asked, but I’ll give you this as a perspective (which you can discard if you wish):

Gaming laptops combine too many compromises to be worthwhile. Big, hot, noisy, expensive. Portable gaming can’t really be portable if you have to find a desk and a power socket.

I would recommend:

1. Buy a secondhand enterprise laptop (Dell or HP or whatever you like, as businesses like these and they tend to flood the secondhand market after spending their prior life on a desktop dock in some office). If it’s just for office work, browsing, etc then just get an 8th or 10th Gen Intel or something. I got a pristine condition Dell with i7 10th gen and 16gb RAM and 512GB NVME for £150 (couple of years ago). It has been great for work. Put Linux on this.

2. Buy a proper handheld console for games. Steam Deck used to be the obvious option, but after the price hike some of the secondhand ROG devices give better performance and price. Put Bazzite on this.

Both of the above combined will probably still be cheaper than most decent options for gaming laptops.

If someone is happily asexual, then I guess it’s not a problem. Some people might feel no desire and carry on with life not feeling like they miss anything because “there’s nothing to miss”. But suffering with it or feeling deprived sucks.

I’ve recently got a new mini PC and am surprised by the milage I’ve gotten out of a Radeon 780M. AMD is doing alright with integrated graphics.

You can make the conflict come from an external source. Works very well in Bob’s Burgers.

I have a relatively positive view on LTT compared to others here.

You can’t succeed on youtube without engaging in some of their clickbait bullshit thumbnails and titles. Although they’re relatively honest in actually covering what they say in the title… So over dramatic titles, but not quite click bait.

No content can be all things to all people. LTT is relatively “casual techy”. If you’re techy enough to be able to manage Linux yourself, then it’s probably not for you. You don’t need then to show you how to put a PC together, or to break the news to you that self hosting or home network storage is a thing.

The content also aimed at a certain audience. If you want more academic hardware testing and analysis, then there’s Gamers Nexus. If you want in depth gaming news/analysis then there are better channels for that too. These guys look at random tech at times too (car related or making craft art cushions or something). These guys are basically the “Top Gear with Jeremy Clarkson” of tech.

Things like the sexual harassment issue and things like that, I’m not as concerned about. If you work in big corporations then you know these problems exist everywhere, what matters is how you deal with them. The court of public opinion followed the drama and came to their own conclusions. This just plays out publically because they’re very public with their content.

As for Linux specifically, they did some noob videos where uninitiated staff tried to jump into Linux and hit a bunch of roadbumps (which happens often in Windows, fine to be open about that, but it also isn’t a big deal for the first adoption to need troubleshooting). They labelled Linux as no good for regular use at that point which angered the internet. Since then I think they’ve realised:

1. They were unfair to Linux
2. They’ve made no allies anywhere by hating on Linux
3. It’s a free win for them if they say some good things about Linux.

So now they seem a lot more positive about Linux. But don’t go here looking for anything Linux related.

I think you should just watch some of their videos from main LTT, short circuit, etc and see if you find it entertaining for yourself.

Yeah this is a disservice to Tumbleweed. I would have accepted a double chin, but the triple chin is going too far.

Mailbox isn’t just good for email. It’s great for getting rid of so many Google services for me. Email, calendar, contacts, TODO lists, online storage, WebDAV sync storage.

• my list of subscriptions and categorisations are centralised so I don’t have to set this up on any other device. I can access this on my phone, tablet and PC.
• it synchronises read/unread stories across devices so I don’t have to keep sifting through the same articles I’ve seen.
• I’ve got a long list of blacklisted words. I don’t want to hear about sports news, gossip, USA-centric news, “he said/she said” bullshit from social media that mainstream news seems to love to report, etc. Now I can set up my blacklist in one place centrally.
• there are a lot of great apps that will access the server RSS feed. I’m never actually going to to TTRSS browser page.

The point isn’t to download content to the server at all. It’s to keep the centralised list. I host opodsync (Gpodder podcast server) for the same reason.

Creators often quote how few of their viewers come from subscribers. I am amazed that the vast majority of YouTube watchers just happily let YouTube decide what shit to show them.
