  • Well it is a job, but it’s also a relationship. The two aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive. In the OP, the one person presumably has a job where they are working outside of the home. The other person’s job is to cook inside of the home.

In fact, thinking about it like a job might be even better because then you can set clearer boundaries, like “days off/vacations” from cooking.

I work in a hospital. Had a very young patient die that way recently. I don’t work directly with the patients, but I am very tangentially involved in the process of determining whether or not an organ is viable for transplant. The case basically had me going “what the fuck”. They had their whole life ahead of them.

One of the minor hosts of Mythbusters died that way too.

The fragility of life is terrifying.

  • Desire? I would say not really. Very occasionally yes and fleeting.

But more it’s like missing a sense. Image all of your friends and family talk about how amazing chocolate tastes. But you were born without a sense of taste. Because people talking about the taste of chocolate are everywhere around you and you’ll never get to know what it tastes like, it bothers you on occasion. You never crave chocolate because you can’t taste anyway, but you’d just like to know what everyone tastes sometimes.

Except replace chocolate with sex/relationships. It’s a bit more significant than chocolate because essentially all forms of media prominently feature sex/relationship. It’s ubiquitous. And many people’s sense of life purpose comes from the outcome of that (children). And man the way people describe what an orgasm is like, it sounds like freaking heroin or something. I’d like to just once be able to experience something that powerful and pleasurable. Most of the time I live with it and am unbothered, but occasionally it leaves me feeling really left out and at some times not even the same species.

  • I feel this. Getting there myself. Part of the problem is that I can’t experience sexual pleasure and I have a hard time experiencing sexual attraction. But I really wish I could experience what those endorphins feel like even once! But even doing it myself, it doesn’t work that way.

To my knowledge, I don’t seem to have any physical abnormalities. I’ve been to the doc for a checkup before there. Nerves just must not be hooked up right or something.

Idk…I’ve found throughout the years that there are increasingly greater and greater amounts of long-form content available on YouTube to watch. Of late, I’ve watched some Louis Theroux documentaries, some documentaries on abandoned facilities, and some real A&E and ambulance emergency shows. There is a ton of interesting content on there if you look for it. I guess I just find the number of streaming services to be too staggering to bother with. So I go with free alternatives like YouTube with an ad blocker and things like PlutoTV and tubi.

Is that what I’m supposed to be looking at? Does it really count as a racist caricature if it is just some sort of weird uncanny valley image?

I’m guessing you mean blackface. But the person doesn’t look at all black or even like blackface. There is just some weird tinting effect happening. It’s like if someone described what blackface is to a blind person…but while trying to describe it, they had a mouth full of marshmallows

Sorry for my ramble and I hope this isn’t offensive to comment. I’m just confused. Is it really even attempting to be blackface?

  • How in the world does such a comprehensive article not include JIS? It looks like it was once included but then it was removed due to poor citations. Wtf why was it not added back? It is very distinct from Philips and if you use a Philips driver on a JIS screw, it strips the shit out of it.

JIS screws are denoted by a small dimple in one of the corners of the + on the screw.

My fingers and toes and nose would always stay cold in the winter, even if the rest of my body was so layered up that I was sweating. It’s a bit odd wearing a ski mask indoors and wearing super thick gloves indoors is not always feasible either depending on what you’re doing (eating, etc.). I compromised a bit with fingerless gloves, and it helped a bit, but not as much as I would have liked. And yeah eating foods with your hands just wasn’t doable that way.

Idk. I’m one of those people that is always too cold. I live in a hot climate now and it sucks major major balls for riding a motorcycle (just learned recently), BUT I prefer this environment in every other circumstance.

I went through a period of time in grad school where this feeling was so strong that it was absolutely affecting my ability to sleep. My bed was in the middle of the room. The headboard was facing the wall. One side of the bed had a view of a window and the other side a view of the door. The bed didn’t really fit in a different orientation because the room was an incredibly strange shape.

No matter what, I could not figure out which side to face to stop the very strong sensation of something being there. I kept having to open my eyes to “check” that nothing was there. I would toss and turn and struggle to make the feeling of being watched go away. I would sometimes swear I heard something breathing. Sometimes I would sleep on the floor…dunno why that felt like it would sometimes do something. Maybe I was able to orient my back to a wall or something idk.

Glad that finally went away. I think I was under extreme stress or something. I also had relatively frequent bouts of sleep paralysis. But I cannot tell you how terrifyingly strong that feeling of demons coming to get me was, even though my rational mind knew there was nothing there.

I had a fear of the dark as a child though, even as an older child. Some nights I would go sleep on my younger brother’s floor because I would get scared. So I had always had some issues with this. But this was dialed up to like 11. One time I couldn’t sleep for multiple days during this grad school period.

    Been fine since tho lol.
