I love the simplicity of SolveSpace but I wish they’d have a loft or sweep feature and it would support free form modelling in some way. Then it would be perfect for me.

Yeah I also like the customizability of the desktop and how lean the window manager can be. I just wish there was some more documentation and setup guides but I guess it’s just a little to early for that.

I got Canoe and jrwm to show me some windows. But on other WMs I think they just don’t register my keypresses like they should so there a re no windows showing up. Maybe I’m missing some other package or step that is so “well known” that it’s not included in any of the setup guides. In general I think the setup process to a basic functioning system is just more involved than I’ve had on other DEs. And I’m probably not deep enough into Linux and am expecting more from the window manager than it actually offers.

I like the concept and tried it on Arch once but couldn’t really get most window managers to work. The screen was just black and there was no mouse movement. I searched for some tutorials on how to get started but couldn’t find any. Do you have tips on how to get a working basic setup from which you can actually try out all the different WMs?

Are there some big drawbacks that one has to live with switching from LaTeX to Typst or is it generally able to be a full replacement?

I think there already is an option to enable proton for all titles instead of doing it for every one separately.

It was the same for me. I stopped looking at Logseq the second I saw that it didn’t simply save text files. It shouldn’t really be an issue since Logseq is open source so you won’t lose access to your files but for notes I like the simplicity of plain text files for backup in git, for sharing and for searchability.

I’d say PopOS with the relatively new Cosmic Desktop could be something interesting for you to try of you don’t really want to go into configurations that much. It has floating and tiling windows that you can switch easily.

I think the capabilities are alright, it’s just way too expensive to run and now they are struggling to pay for that cost.

What do you mean by that? I use the Keepass flatpak and even got autofill to work by adding some kind of launch option of I remember correctly.

One thing that is really annoying is that for working with plugging in and out SD cards in my internal SD card reader I always have to go to standby for it to properly remove and then again to properly detect a new one being inserted. This does not seem to be a problem with external readers.

Also I mostly keep my laptop in standby but have to restart every two weeks since some small things like fingerprint sign in seem to just randomly stop working after a few days of usage.

Otherwise it’s smooth sailing but I think that’s mostly because I have an older Thinkpad and they are just really well supported and I’m not trying to do very special things and mostly stick do default workflows in my distro.

I’m running Aeon on my main laptop for I think two years now and it’s so nice to just have an updated system automatically after you reboot without doing anything. However Aeon is still in RC stage so there are occasional bugs mainly related to disk encryption since automated tests are not yet implemented. But there are many other options.
