We currently have no plans to open-source our own mobile apps, but Dawarich supports half-dozen 3rd party open source apps that can reliably track and upload your data

It’s also an option, of course, and I will post changelog to our blog, but as you could’ve read in the post, you can say no to the changelog feature and no request to chibichange will ever be made. You’re safe :)

Not as part of Dawarich itself, but I think combination of our free tools will do it for you:

1. Convert your KMLs to GPXes: https://dawarich.app/tools/gpx-to-kml/
2. Merge your GPXes to a single file: https://dawarich.app/tools/gpx-merger/
3. Import your chonky GPX into Dawarich itself :)

No data sampling is being done as of now, but it might be introduced some time later :)

Our official app for Android uses Google Play Services for location tracking, so it’s a no-go for the f-droid store, but we have a community (non-official) app published there, and the developer is in our discord: https://github.com/sunstep/dawarich-community

I loved Overland for iOS, unfortunately can’t say much for Android

The main issue wasn’t the maintenance but the updates cadence :) We have a bunch of internal stuff to maintain for our cloud+staging+behind the scenes, so I decided it wasn’t worth it given we already have free cloud trial.

The app tracks locally and uploads data to your server based on settings you configured. Mine tries to upload every 100 points in a batch, but my server is behind Tailscale VPN, so sometimes the data just waits till I enable VPN to be uploaded. Other users user Cloudflare tunnels, some of them are just exposing Dawarich to the internet.

Probably will update the docs to make it clear :)

The points are being recorded even while your phone is offline, and will be uploaded to Dawarich with no issues once you’re back online :) I personally stored 435k points in our iOS app and then successfully uploaded them to my server

We had a demo server but eventually retired it as it was a hassle to maintain. You can use our cloud trial for 7 days to try the product and cancel it before your card will be charged

It’s totally possible, I think all the apps we support can store geodata on device until its uploaded. The only thing with OwnTracks client specifically, it will delete all tracked unaploaded data from the device if you change your destination server. But it warns you about it.
