Yeah, that’s good to know! I didn’t have the mental bandwidth to learn all the ngix thing and just wanted to let my family access my immich server, so I’m currently test driving with ynh.
So far I love it, but haven’t yet tried restoring backups or upgrading apps.
What’s this community’s opinion of Yunohost?
I’ve been struggling with keeping everything in control, the discovered yunohost. It’s like containerised apps, but without containers. I love how simple it is and the wide range of apps.
That’s probably like when I look for my cellphone and don’t notice it’s on my hands…
A few weeks ago I installed Debian on my old computer and i swear I couldn’t find these options!
Ever since snap arrived, I switched to Debian.
The only thing I dislike about Debian is that there is no “server/headless install image” available, so it’s not a big deal.
Oh, good to know! I’m currently running AI stuff on my RTX3070 and it barely fast enough to be acceptable…
However it’s nice to be able to ask HA to “turn off the lights close to the TV” without having to be hyper specific!
At this price point, there are also DHX Spark on the Nvidia side… I don’t know how they compare, though. Our software tech lead got one at work to test if it can reduce cloud expenses!

Yeah, you still have full control of your local Plex install (for now). I don’t mind it, but I would advise against it for new users. It is on the enshittification road

I’m ambivalent about the topic because the goal is for us to own our servers…
Most of the hardware I use is proprietary, but at the end of the day Intel can’t come and rob me of the object I paid for. Sure it will become obsolete in 10 or 20 years, but I’m still the owner.
When it comes to software, I want to own it, not just a license. Most proprietary software comes with strings attached, which is why I don’t think it fits the self-hosting philosophy.
If a proprietary software was “buy it once and own the binaries forever”, I wouldn’t mind seeing it discussed here. (Plex with lifetime licenses comes to mind.)
However, I don’t want to see advertisement for a proprietary software the same way I don’t want to see ads for some specific hardware components.

A for-profit company “not having resources” usually means that the product department decided it’s not worth investing. Doesn’t tell us anything about the actual effort required to maintain such a software.

I once was reported by the high school programming class for “plagiarism” because I used visual studio’s auto-generated template to start my homework.
The teacher reported it to my parents, he wanted to make me fail. I was also reported for creating a “hidden” chat app that I shared with my friends. (It didn’t show in the taskbar.)
Next Christmas, they bought me a visual studio license at home!
What if some parts of the universe are deterministic, and some others aren’t? Or that is is deterministic sometimes, but sometimes it is not?
Then, would it mean that initiating a chain of deterministic events that eventually causes suffering makes me responsible for this suffering?
What if i choose to cut taxes because i think I’ll have more money, but it causes a series of events that end up increasing organised crimes? What if it was always the deterministic result of that choice, but the choice itself was not deterministic and I could have chosen not to do it?
