Sorry, no, it was maybe a month or two ago. I think it was for something like insurance or some sort of service.

I saw a TV ad where they AI generated a man sitting at a kitchen counter looking at his phone for about 5 seconds. There was absolutely nothing wild about the scene, just a person sitting there being human. Rather than pay some random real guy a small amount of money, they AI-slopped it. It was thankfully obvious that it was AI, but it just seemed so unnecessary.

Only some of them. For example, a few years I went through a period of reading all the fiction I could find by Isaac Asimov, and then Heinlein. I distinctly remember the plot of Asimov’s Nightfall and some of the scenes. I remember a select few plots and scenes from some of the many short stories, but can’t reliably recall even which of those two authors they were from, let alone which story or book. Others are just dust in the wind.

I have a very good memory for many things, but a book plot just isn’t something my mind has felt is necessary to retain. Like another poster said, I read for the escape, not as a learning experience.

In these modern times, lots of people don’t have many phone numbers memorized. We just keep contacts in our phones, so we forget those numbers over time. I have a few that I still have confidently memorized.

Deadliest Catch started when those other shows were still on, and the first bunch of seasons were good. In more recent years, the “will they find crab” story was getting too repetitive, so now they’re manufacturing storylines. I had to stop watching a few seasons ago because the bad acting from fishermen was just too cringy. I would lump it in with the other reality shows now.

This month Coca-Cola debuted its holiday ad and reportedly used 70,000 AI prompts to bring it to life. That number is technically true, but deeply misleading. It wasn’t 70,000 prompts; it was 70,000 AI clips stitched together, generated through what was likely hundreds of thousands of prompts, refinements, reruns, and scene rebuilds.

The end result probably could have powered a small country for a year.
