Yeah I messed around with both for a time but couldn’t really get into it - can’t place my finger on why either, just the whole *arr suite is not for me somehow.

I have gifted several repos to the community writ large… Transferring to a stranger is dangerous. Shutting it down is letting the community disolve into the broader ocean of OSS. If you care deeply about this project (AND are not burned out, this is key) I would highly recommend transparency first. Edit your main readme or make a post on your issues/forum/etc, whatever is the most popular, asking for community leaders to step up in taking the reigns. Promote one to many (depending on how popular this repo is) contributers to become stewards, where they are essentially granted all permissions except a rolling a new version, retain that power for yourself and over a year or so you approve releases but take no active part in development. Once one to many contributers assume the ownership role (in spirit only as you hold the release keys) and are actively progressing what used to be your baby, then and only then do you pick the best of the worst (lol sorry RLM is always in the back of my mind) to be your true successor - handing over the last of your exclusive permissions and breaking a bottle of champage on the figurative new ship.

I personally use OpenWRT on my router for this task - When a device connects it calls a webhook (local network) which cascades multiple calls depending on the MAC of the connecting device, e.g. open the front gate + raise/lower the house temperature (temperature sensor dependent), illuminate the driveway (time of day dependent) for all devices, send WOL packet to my desktop and HTPC (only for my MAC addy), etc.

I like having the automations linked to something with a high degree of security, local sensors like bluetooth or NFC are too easy to spoof imho if you are automating locks and the like.

IRC is still around and nothing has really surpassed it yet imho. We keep re-inventing the wheel.

Yeah not bad, I’m sure you could use federated login to allow the users’ personal google acct to hit the maps api and pull reviews. But yelp/google/amzn/etc all manipulate ratings and reviews behind the scenes without any transparency which is a deeper problem and why I am always critical of reviews in general. But like I said, if you and I created an OSS review plugin/service for use in OSS maps, it wouldn’t be long before it was corrupted in some regard… somehow. Cynical I know but the review data is just so damn JUICY to everyone.

I think it’s just too valuable to stay open and free, someone will always want to monetize (from the business, the reviewers, the ‘pop up’ order on the map, etc)

I too have found myself in the same boat, especially because Google Maps is probably (for my life) their best product. I was in the early contributor beta and have been pretty consistent in leaving reviews over the last 10+ years (although the offers for comp’d dinners have disappeared) - I’ve made an effort to be better, I have CoMaps on my phone, and I’ve started contributing to OSM. I think what would really seal the deal for me to shift completely would be integrated reviews. As you said, google and yelp have the market cornered for that, but there is no transparency.

edit: that transit app website is the worst marketer crap I have ever stepped in, scrolled so many fucking pages of artistic empty-words and vision speak and still have NO FUCKING CLUE what the app does. JFC.
