You know you can be sociable without giving them details? “Yeah, I’ll be seeing family”, “Got some jobs around the house that need doing”, or even “nah, just taking it easy this time”. It doesn’t even have to be quite factual. The person asking almost certainly doesn’t really care about the details, they’re just trying to connect with you, so maybe have some fun with it. Hint that you have a secret identity as a superhero who fights the misuse of apostrophes or em-dashes, or that you spend all your spare time painting minatures models of slime molds.

Seeing high cache and buffer numbers is usually a good sign, as it means the system is making full use of the memory you have. It’ll automatically deallocate it if something actually needs the memory, but until then it’s using it to store data you might need.

Swap’s a funny one, and whilst you can tune it to an astonishing degree, the decisions the kernel makes aren’t always what you’d want. With this little actual memory usage, compared to the installed RAM, you might be able to run without swap at all, unless you want something like hibernate. If you want to test that, you can run (as root) swapoff -a, which should disable all swap devices, pushing needed pages back in to RAM, but only until you reboot. If it’s stable, you can consider removing the swap partition(s) later.

Where this approach falls apart is where the argument they’re making is convincing enough that it might appear legitimate to a less informed reader than you. They may not engage with the comment, but, if there’s no counter-argument, instead go away believing it may have some validity.

Obviously thus doesn’t apply to the more blatant forms of trolling, but even that distinction can be blurry.

When are patches coming from upstream? When will they be in package repos? Ilm assuming the major distros like Hannah Montanna Linux will have them out first? I have so many servers to patch. Is windows just like the next version of Xwindows?

Back in the dim and distant past, when I first studied CS, we were literally told to run that as one of the first commands we tried. It’s an excellent place to start if you have the time to learn unix/linux thoroughly.

A good university encourages deeper thought than that, and surrounds you with people with a similar interest in your subject, and more people who are passionate about other subjects. The problem is “cuteness” is very much in the eye of the beholder for things like this, and I’m with neatchee here, it’s not cute, and it makes it basically unshareable, and hence unusable in a lot of contexts. I appreciate the effort that’s gone into the project, but the name and publicity massively detract from that.
