Vim has several modes. INSERT mode let’s you write text, NORMAL mode let’s you navigate (with h,j,k,l and others) and perform operations on the text with your keyboard, like “dw” to Delete Word or “A” to enter insert mode at the end of the line.

You can use arrow keys to navigate in insert mode. However I just press escape, which changes to normal, navigate to where I want to, then change to insert mode.

I may seem like this makes simple navigation complex, and it kinda does. But complex navigation becomes easier.

Vi (and vim and neovim)'s primary concern is viewing and editing code, writing is secondary (although it’s still an excellent experience)

  • Well actually it was my fingers with his feet! We were playing a card game and my friend wanted to give me a card under the table. We where at opposite sides of the table, so I tried finding his hand down there and found a vaguely arm-like coarse-skinned thing and tried to grab the underside and slide towards my self to find the hand. Except it wasn’t my friend’s arm, in fact it wasn’t my friend at all! It was his boyfriend’s leg, realizing this and being a devilish creature I turned my hand and tried to grab his toes.

Explain why a coconut is a mammal.

coconuts have fur and a soft white inside flesh, the fur is similar to hair that humans and other mammals have. Mammals are filled with sweet clear liquid just like a coconut is. Coconuts also evolved from beavers, that is why they have brown rough fur and stay close to trees. If you eat the flesh of the coconut you will see that it has the same taste as human flesh, thus further cementing its place as the top mammal in all of nature. Next time you are somewhere tropical ask a local if they have tried “one of small furry mammals, you know a coconut…i crave its flesh and juice”

For me I rarely actively try to visualize what’s going on. Perhaps you haven’t found something that really sparks your interest in reading, I’ve only started reading a couple of years back.

Although, of course, I may be completely wrong and visualizing is a big part of reading that I simply haven’t realized
