You sound like you’re talking about application run performance. That shouldn’t be noticeably different. Startup and application load time tend to be where the gains are.


You can’t just ship a binary to a random location without knowing architecture, which is very relevant. Not everything is x86 any more. But you can do shell, and since aur is shell that should be good enough given the context of the article.


In return they get an actually secure messing app they can use without having to support it themselves. Which is pretty big.
Well you might also need to run some arcane incantation to remove quarantine bits, too. And it’ll only work if it’s actually been ported to the m-series chips, of course. And sometimes you just need to compile the whole god damn app yourself anyway. But sure, caveats side, you can run anything you want on macos that runs on macos. As long as you’re not using a company-issued device and are forbidden.

I had issues yesterday getting an aur package of scratchjr as a desktop electron app from 2021 running on my daughter’s laptop. Worked fine when I tested it on mine, so not sure what the issue is there. Means she can only use it on the website with an internet connection for now, which is not the ideal flow from my perspective.
Other than that, pretty great, no notes.
Edit: I was missing the libxss dependency. A fact that was immediately obvious from journalctl. Working now.

Once it happened to me because 6 years prior I’d made a change thinking ‘hah. That makes more sense’ and then things changed under me and I had to read journalctl in a tty. Low key enjoyed dealing with it. But here’s the thing: most ppl are dead at that point. No idea what to do. Arch is for nerds.
