They do not monitor the face of the driver and they are only mandatory for coaches and long distance freight.
No windows, therefore quiet, and good acoustics.
I don’t understand his point about restoring your messages to a new phone. How does that prove it isn’t encrypted? Couldn’t Telegram store the encrypted data on their server, send the encrypted data back to you and then you automatically decrypt it because you have the key?
Not if you change this setting.
Invites by either QR or URL. You will be fine. Anyone who figures out how to join the Fediverse will figure out SimpleX too.
Last I checked (over a year ago) desktop was not great. IIRC there was no scroll bar.
Also getting noobs to join is tricky. You cannot use your native camera app to accept an invite (has to be via the SimpleX app) and it screws up invites via Facebook messenger (gets confused by the tracking suffix Facebook appends).
Search for it in the Google play store.
SimpleX uses the Signal engine but requires no phone number. Also can awt up your own server (unlike Signal).

And isn’t public WiFi more of a security issue than having your own carrier?
If you are an old programmer/geek young people will dismiss you even though they don’t even know what a folder is. They think they are IT experts because they can apply the latest instagram filters to their photos.
I don’t know what a software “stack” is but government can packet sniff to see if that kind of software is used but the vendors in this cat and mouse game apparently can sometimes fool the packet sniffers.
China cannot block all VPN’s so it is looking good for us geeks. However we need to educate the masses.
I had my Internet crippled in China in 2012 after I used Hamachi to log into my home computer in Australia.
The crippling got worse if I repeated my action eventually disabling the internet completely for about an hour.
I played this game a few times to pick up on the pattern.
A company can run their own VPN server. A third party need not be involved. The commercial VPN service providers can therefore be blocked by government without affecting those businesses.
I meant Unix systems were hacked through finger. It may be fixed now and may have never been a problem in Linux.

Sounds good. I would love to get an activist group I run off Facebook. There are hundreds of members but traffic is less than what you describe.
The problem for me is that most of the members are technically illiterate so my next question is: how sophisticated do the clients need to be?
How much procesing could it handle though? If it is only a handful of friends then what makes it better than Signal?
Also, cheap second hand laptops are a thing.
I want to believe but I wonder if there is a practical use beyond “this would be cool” (and I do think it is).
Which state? It doesn’t seem to be the case in NSW according to that web page.
