I also have a strong bias toward aesthetic over statement. There’s no reason my T needs to “say” anything any more than a striped or patterned shirt needs to “say” anything. I can just like how it looks or compliments my outfit.

I’m never going to wear some generic Coca-Cola or beer brand or “I speak sarcasm” shirt. If it’s an obvious legible statement (like a local band or charity) then that means it’s really important to me and I don’t mind looking like a trashy geek.

Counterpoint, wearing a graphic on the back feels shallow and self-aggrandizing. You’re never going to get to see the graphic you like in a mirror; friends and acquaintances you interface with all day won’t see it. It’s only for the benefit of anonymous observers behind you that you’ll never meet and won’t think about you twice.

It also is more antisocial. It’s natural to comment on a graphic when you’re face to face (pointing to chest, “oh you also like [Band]?”) and hard to broach a conversation from behind when they’re probably engaged with something else ("[Band]? Oh right, the shirt, yeah…").

It’s possible to pull it off, but in general I’d rather see someone confidently rocking a 3 wolf moon shirt than an incredible print drifting down the street on some anonymous back.

The controls don’t even work for this. Even if you scrutinize every game before white listing, the devs can patch in loot boxes (or any toxic mechanic) at any time without your knowledge.

And putting that aside, “bad parenting” is such a shit cop out when Steam’s main page is devoted to high revenue [toxic] games. This is like blaming parents when cigarette companies made ads specifically appealing to children, as if the inability to legally buy their product absolves them from the damage done.

The Chinese families bit is most likely a reference to widespread, problematic family dynamics stemming from shared social pressures in China. Just in living memory, a household might have gone through: a revolution, the cultural revolution, famine, rapid urbanization, one child policy, economic booms, economic bubbles, etc…

That will leave any family pretty fucked up, though it may not be universally bad (hence, only the middle of the horse). In the future, we’ll probably see similar echoes of trauma from the USA’s current historical flashpoint.

It’s more likely that Steam leans into the “Steam[Device] Verified ✅/❌” labeling. If anything, that makes navigating the marketplace much easier for a mid-performance buyer. They’ve already done it with steam deck, it’s a good angle to pressure both devs and consumers into their device.

People buying this won’t be “daily driving” their pc in any sense. I think the idea is unlock steam’s library (and marketplace) the massive casual phone/tablet crowd. If I didn’t already have a dedicated gaming PC I would definitely be interested.

The very same Alien Enemies Act sent US citizens of Japanese descent to internment camps. That’s not a hypothetical, it’s a line that has already been crossed.

People with Visas, permanent residents and immigrants. The administration’s argument for the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil explicitly states that his residency rights are void since “we didn’t know he was a Terrorist at the time”. You can extend that argument to literally any foreign born individual.

50% is napkin projection based on 20% suppression every three months (0.80³). Obviously it makes a lot of assumptions but the crackdowns haven’t slowed yet, much less plateaued. I mentioned it to show how tenuous opposition can get even for “safe” demographics.

The administration is already posturing for this suppression: labeling vague groups like antifa as terrorists, threatening funding for universities fostering protests, statements about “illegal protests”, invoking the Alien Enemies Act, etc… It’s not a huge leap to extrapolate to how sweeping these measures will be.

If you don’t live in America and can’t engage in domestic political activity, frothing at the mouth isn’t gonna do shit to change who gets elected president. Why not support the people genuinely trying to make a difference instead of demonizing them? Expecting them to throw away their political capital just to show solidarity accomplishes nothing.

There are about 50 million foreign-born residents in America, so in 3 months this administration has frozen the political voice of ~15% of the population.

They make up ~20% of the working age population, so if you’re someone in the get-out-and-protest demographic that gives you decent odds of it theoretically not ending poorly. I guess you could say that’s a vast majority, but it was nearly 100% before.

We’re on pace for 50% suppression by the end of the year (20% silenced in a single quarter) and punishment will certainly be retroactive. You can understand the dilemma of 50/50 future odds you end up in jail for exercising your constitutional rights.

Saying that the right to protest is exclusive to citizens is certainly an… interesting stance…

But looking just at citizens: ICE has already harassed and arrested scores of citizens based on racial profiling. The agency deported as many as 70 citizens during Trump’s first term.

There have been allegations of more US citizen deportations in these first 3 months of his presidency. I can dredge up those examples if you’d like, but don’t have them readily on hand.
