There is also a new trend, where some newcomers from Windows don’t want to rely on the community and ask Ai bots instead. I’m not a big fan of doing that if you are new to a subject, but on the other hand it can be helpful if the community gets toxic, and they (I mean some random people) say it helped them. So that is another thing we have to deal with, hallucinations and such.

BTW I think there are two types of RTFM, The Read the Fucking Manual and the other explaining and helping as much and then pointing to the documentation for more, let’s call it Read The Fine Manual. :-) So yes, I do not like people just dropping and leaving the asking person helpless with the advice they should read the manual. But I’m a fan of helping and giving them a specific link to a part where the documentation can help further than I can.

While it was wrong move, it is a legit option. Such streams just displays what many people actually do, especially those not very technically versed. So I see more of an exposure of many, than a single personal mistake here, because this is not an issue in isolation. And its good that we see this on display, because we talk and point to it and others learn why that needs to be done. I’m not defending his mistake, just talk more broadly about the issue.

We have seen ignoring warnings from other channels too… its more common than people think. I think people ignore this, because everything is overwhelming when new to Linux. They learn so much, experiment so much, its just like in Tokyo all lights blend you and then you just click off… ok… at this point I maybe defended his mistake. :D Goddammit I’m too optimistic!

Because it reminds of your own mistakes. :-) I agree it is sometimes painful to see in the mirror. But I’m more forgiving probably. I just don’t like if newcomers got shamed on and discredited not understanding what they are talking about. At least that was my impression reading the comment I replied to. I see good will and will to learn and this should be applaud. Even if someone struggles with basics, its always good to see where and how they struggled.

I exclusively use EXT4, so this is welcome improvements. It’s really rock solid and performance is good too. Not sure how relevant these improvements other than measuring them in specific cases will be for my daily usage, but it can’t hurt I guess. Article also talks about:

Which is impressive, because its pretty darn good already. I wonder if anyone ecountered a bug in the filesystem on a live system in recent years or if this is just some cleanups they found when inspecting the code, without affecting anyone in real world?

You don’t have to buy more RAM in order to benefit from this change. Your existing one should be enough. Usually if your system needs more VRAM, then there is most likely still some system RAM left to use it as an extension.

You should always measure first before blindly following dogmas.

Also note I was not just speaking of today, but with future additions and changes. You can’t measure the future, but you can plan ahead and build upon a good foundation, that the small format can be used for extending it in future. That’s the idea. Also to test what you suggest they have to build the entire system years and waste lot of time and effort.

Performance matters a lot, because program can autosave in quick sessions after simple steps. Even more important if multiple images are edited or loaded. While this is not the biggest improvement, it is still something to keep in mind. Performance should always be a priority. Programs will keep expanding and add bloat over time, so its good to have a format like that in mind.

JSON comes with builtin data formats that XML lacks, that’s why you have such overhead with additional validation. Everything in XML is treated as strings, and there are lot of stuff like entities that is totally unneeded for a file format like in GIMP. XML Schema is needed because the format is extremely complicated unlike JSON, if you have no other validation. GIMP itself has validation builtin already.

XML is not really superior to JSON as an image editing file format.

For the file format, would have been JSON instead XML not the better format? Its lighter and easier to parse and write, meaning more performant than XML.

What makes this Chatbot client different from just using it in the browser? My first thought was, it might get special permission to better interact with the system, like the agentic tools do. I assume it can better integrate into system with the taskbar maybe. Or maybe this is more efficient than just running the webbrowser. Or it might have special commandline arguments with special options?

Oh… wait its just an entire browser running a single tab. Alright then. Why does this need to be an app on its own? To me this is as useless as a native browser based Discord app… Just bookmark it in your browser and open it there. You can even customize it even more with browser addons.

Ah! I’ve seen a few times some artifacts with my RX 7600 on KDE too, but not on max/min, but randomly. I couldn’t reproduce it, so it is really hard to talk about such subject. As it just recently started (I’m on 7.1.6), I guess this is the same issue. Wondered if this is an issue with KDE or Krohnkite extension or my GPU dying.

So glad it’s “just” a bug in the Kernel. This is just a visual issue right? It doesn’t hurt I hope.
