A lot of fediverse instances for some weird reason use Cloudflare for captchas and espionage. I assume it’s a sort of “genre-blind” offloading hardware work moment, because one of the big reasons people come to the Fediverse is precisely to escape the grip and decision power of giants like CF.
I mean, “picking the wrong side of history” aligns with historical Germany behaviour, so I guess we can’t really expect more from f.o.
Let’s just say at least the moderators of feddit.org have made a reputation for themselves by obeying fascism laws in advance and openly supporting European re-colonialism upon Palestine. And because they have moderator powers, this also effects the kind of speech that feddit.org carries and is seen for.
So far, pretty nul: I just realized none of the instances I’m logged in can even see feddit.org.
Would likely need to spin something extra just for this. But honestly f.o is not even that worth it.

What “underlying issue”? The one in systemd?
Everything works correctly (starting, shutting down under openrc / under sysvinit / manually / with killall)… except specifically systemd.
Oh but it’s not just stopping things, starting things is subject to the same issue also:
A start job is running for "wait for network to be available"
(attached to a network interface that is not necessarily connected at bootup)
Systemd is just special.
Oh no, I solved the problem: I uninstalled systemd. It’s systemd who is ignoring things, such as the longstanding history of Unix and Linux (research what happened between systemd and screen, tmux, dtach).
If it was really the program’s fault, why doesn’t it happen when I switch to sysvinit? (or maybe openrc, I haven’t tried that one)
That can hit any time, not just in shutdown. At bootup, when suspending, etc. This message and the wait time is so bad. Systemd basically implemented Windows Update waitouts on Linux! It’s incredible!
Switching from systemd to sysvinit solved that pretty nicely.
