LLMs, Rust, and Wayland all have been striking me as bizarrely cultish in the Linux development world, so I’m going to stay well away from this. They seem to be aggressively showing up everywhere so I don’t know how long I’ll be able to do that. Here’s hoping they don’t spread through XFCE as a whole. I’ve been playing with calcurse and calcure, both TUI calendars because I can’t keep something like Thunderbird open on my cruddy low RAM laptop. There are some sync methods but they’re pretty janky. I’m tempted to just set up a plaintext file with appointments and have a script scan for the upcoming 24 hours for notifications or something

I finally decided to make the move off github a couple weeks ago and ended up self hosting with Forgejo. It was really easy to set up, and my buddies and I are loving it. Provides a robust web interface and handles pull requests with automatic merges and all that. I haven’t had any issues thus far

Forgejo was incredibly easy to set up and my buddies and I are already successfully collaborating on a project that I’ve moved over from Github. I miss the days when I used to love technology and be excited about all the great things it could potentially do for society. Now I’m a luddite trying to stick to older and simpler stuff at most while I cynically point out all the awful ways technology will be used by the selfish and the powerful

I think the key is to just not hate on someone else for having a preference for one you don’t care for. (And not being an overzealous missionary for your own preference.) It’s fun seeing the variety and people geeking out about the little intricacies they love about their favorites

I found out the other day that I had a mumble server still running that I had been tinkering with a year or so ago and just forgot about. Hadn’t noticed it was still running this whole time because it’s so low in resource usage
