  • Other con: Unless you have a new home with pristine wires, the speeds of MoCa can vary anywhere from 2.5Gpbs to 6Mps. It also gets very tricky if you have still cable TV in your home because many of the set top boxes use MoCa and they directly interfere with using it for internet (though you can sometimes get it working with filters, my experience was poor). MoCa is still far better than something like Powerline adapters, which are another option for not having to run new cables/lines.

  • He just using the old “Argument from Authority” logical fallacy. I’ve worked with tons of people, even those that did in fact “know their stuff”, that thought it was perfectly valid to dismiss others because of their experience being more extensive than others. Ironically, after I’d prove these people wrong in serious matters (usually several times), I somehow got added to the nebulous authority whitelist in their head. I don’t want to just be believed became I’m dammit, believe me when I’m correct and provide evidence!

  • Not the person that commented, but this fear does stem from a real thing years ago related to, I believe, Amazon Fire TVs that were using some sort of mesh functionality to get data out. It was not wide spread, and now I can’t find any links about it, but I did at the time when I was worried about it and I was trying to find more information. If I am not mistaken, this was a feature that Amazon actually patented, so I don’t think it would have become common anyway. I know that without a good link this is just heresay, and that’s fine to leave it that way since I don’t think it is still happening anyway. If anyone else can manage to find a link, please share it hear as it is interesting and can show that it isn’t likely a major concern.

  • I think that if it came out today it would be nothing and fade away, a subscription would never have happened. Notch got very lucky that his particular game, out of the many similar games at the time caught on and was given the time to expand and iterate. Not that Minecraft didn’t become quite cool, but I wish Zach from Zachtronics that made the game that inspired Minecraft (Infiniminer) had gotten more success from it. Then again, if he had, we might not have gotten all the wacky and cool games he released later.

  • Yeah, I did think about how to make it in any way viable as just a mental exercise and came to a similar conclusion. If I didn’t enjoy getting my own veggies and fruits I’d probably just stop. I mostly started because I love very spicy peppers and was unable to even buy them most of the time. I eventually started growing all sorts of things of course, you can’t survive on superhot pepper pods for long, and if you could, you may not want to.
