Entirely too many movies dwell in historic facts or likeliness (e.g. two characters small talking about the big ball game- not a documented event but entirely plausible) to ground themselves then go into fantasy/ax to grind land without warning. A cyborg raptor with lasers on it’s head should pop up in the corner to let the audience know we’re in fantasy land.

I suspect the Mandala Effect is what happens when timelines/realities collapse/fold into one another. Us humans are bad are perceiving when these things happen because we simply wrap it in an SEP field and go about our lives, but sometimes little leftover details catch our attention.

Star Trek space travel and the social commentary versus pew-pew. R&M science fiction concepts versus being a drunk asshole. Warhammer as satire versus …whatever they think it is.

There is a dangerous underlying logic to this line of reasoning. Treating all technological innovation as an added cost to be borne by the end consumer leads to one inescapable dead end. Yes, sometimes there are actual costs. If so, fine. However, this blanket notion of hedonic price adjustment increases wealth inequality with no end. It isn’t a sensible and we should be thankful our ancestors were not so foolish or we’d all be living in trees or caves right now.

This is one of those situations where I’d have to write an essay to dive into everything wrong. I’m not going to do all that just to have you say “nu uh”. Here’s one example:

The title is “I can’t use Linux! It’s too hard!” yet the crying bell curve person in the middle is literally using Linux.

Did you mean for the title to say “the terminal”? That would change things. But that’s sort of my point, everything has this one off LLM vibe.

Did AI write this? It has that weird detachment from understanding the meme format, what the people are saying, and the point of everything that LLMs tend to get just right.

I have limited experience here, but can confirm that being a sleeping baby is quite pleasant.

Funny thing, right now federal funding is hyper focused on AI because the people who bought Trump expect a return on their money. The things is, the people on the federal side more or less fall into two camps- political appointees who know nothing about anything and old guards who know that “AI” has been around for decades in various forms. This is creating fun situations where a funding opportunity might as well read “please find a way for fElon to make money using AI”, but they never specify “LLMs” so submitting a neural network or machine learning proposal fits the guidelines. Time will tell how that plays out.

If only tap was flexible so you could put a fold in the end when you’re done. I heard NASA is hard at work trying to make this dream a reality if the Chinese don’t beat them to it.

Just imagine it. A few days a year where it’s cold enough for ice/snow, long enough to enjoy the novelty, and since it’s just a few days nobody is prepared for it so society shuts down. Then in the summers sustained highs in the 80s. Heavenly.

I grew up in the American Midwest. Average Jan low 17F, Average July high 89F (-8C to 31C). Those are averages, with plenty of days well outside that range especially on the cold end. Summer were not too bad. Now I live in hell and it gets over 35C every day for months on end and it’s a wet miserable heat.

I’m an American with a tenuous grasp of the C scale and even I know this is BS.

Maybe this is from growing up in a place with seasons, but 30C to 30F is a comfortable temperature range and I would be quite pleased to live in a place where those are the extremes.

In the above video, his decision to attend a protest wearing a beard is beyond dubious. I sure hope he had several independent lawyers weigh in on exactly what he could say and do that won’t violate the court order, because on the surface that seems like begging the judge to throw him in jail. Even if he technically followed the order, the appearance of it is probably enough for the judge to go nuclear.

Most everything leading up to that I could write off as a combination of telling a good story, boundary testing, and shining a light on how absurdly corrupt our criminal Justice System is in operation, but that beard scene has me concerned that Ben just lost whatever ground he had to stand on.

I hate it when the default state is turned into the negative. Every time I have to specify “unsweet tea” I feel the sands of my lifeforce slipping away.

Ouch. And to follow that up with “intelligence is often underestimated by cynics imo”. Simply brutal. I hate to be the one to break this too you, but having a PhD doesn’t necessarily mean a person is smart. Even if it did, that 1% is sort of entirely making my above point about society.
