I’ll be here, in the place I can afford to keep living, so hopefully it’s near by or the business I’m performing free labor for is legally group owned in full and the plan doesn’t rely on lots of volunteers building one person lots of funding based on trust.

Where? Can you find a nice plot of land where a city could be constructed in a place where it would be free to create it’s own moral laws, that’s accessible enough to the folks here from all around the world that they’d be able to pop in easily to help out regularly while still maintaining the job necessary for survival until it’s built up enough to allow for that?

Most people like things like air conditioning, well cooked meals, and comfortable beds. It’s difficult to convince a group of people in 2026 to hike out into some seemingly unclaimed land where the environment is pretty much sure to be awful and start constructing huts and rebuilding society while living off the land.

Yeah, funding is a major issue with most attempts at creating a utopian society. My plans for it involved somehow winning a lottery I didn’t buy a ticket for, having a mysterious and formerly unheard of relative die and for some unknown reason choose me to inherit their billions, or finding a genie lamp. No luck on any front so far, but maybe today will be the day.

Sure, but not many that also have the means to accomplish it. It’s sort of tough to build a better world when you’re stuck working for an evil corporation but would be homeless and starving if you as much as took a few days off to protest gunning random innocent people down in the streets.

I don’t see a realistic way to get to that better world from where we’re standing that doesn’t first go through a lot of awful even worse than anything we see today, and very likely a lot of people being willing to die just in the hopes that it will make things better for people in the future but certainty that whether it does or not is something they’ll never see either way.

Respect human life? Tough sell. Have you met many humans? A lot of them are pretty awful, and they’re all over the place. I think we need to introduce some natural predators to thin down their numbers a bit.

At least seeing a polar bear dragging a child off for it’s family would give me something to chuckle about.

He’s in his 70s so I was a bit too early for the stage where parents supported it as a money making career. I was just the goofy nerd with the taped together glasses living like a hermit playing midi files of songs I liked. There wasn’t a lot of that proud parents feeling. :)

It’s a nice sentiment, but in the end those things all boil down to chemicals in the brain.

I’m not saying that administering a constantly rotating chemical buffet is the ideal way to experience life or happiness. But if you have hundreds of billions of dollars it certainly seems like it would be a better alternative than being a miserable prick.

If you’re rich enough to have your own pharmacists and neuroscience research division along with doctors to monitor your health? Very definitely. You could set up a crop rotation of chemicals to keep you all sorts of happy without worries of major addiction to or mounting tolerance of any individual chemical, all while more are devised and tested.

It’d be some mighty blissy bliss. Tough to find much to complain about livin like that.

I don’t get how they’re so bitter and hateful. Happiness is some chemicals in the brain and money can definitely buy all of those.

They have the money and leverage to get whatever medications they want and hire a team of doctors to monitor them and keep them safe while abusing them to be the happiest people ever.

And they’re buying a 12th yacht and another castle instead? Lame.

100x productivity boost? Then you must be working much less, and still making much more, right? Doesn’t even need to reach that 100x figure, even say half the work hours and 2-3x the pay or 1/4 the work hours for the same pay would be great.
