Can someone explain what the issue with this is? I’m sure there’s some legitimate gripe but so far, in between the memes about people joining forces to stop this cartoon, all I’ve been able to surmise is that people think the style is ugly (even though it looks the same as 80% of cartoon network stuff), and that there are people calling it “heterophobic” and crying that the villains are straight or something.

Are there any non manosphere people that can explain what the big fuss is?

Where did this stereotype actually come from? I’m genuinely curious. Because Windows users wouldn’t know Arch from Ubuntu and to them, all Linux users are “I use Linux btw” types. And I don’t think I’ve seen Arch users just randomly telling people they use Arch in Linux spaces. But it must’ve come from somewhere.

It’s been a while but for me personally, the number one thing that saves your ass in event of failure is installing both the up to date and the LTS kernel. If you fail to boot, it’s gonna have something to do with a kernel update 90% of the time, in which case you just boot with the LTS kernel. Just about anything else can be fixed either while you’re up and running, or with a live distro installed on a USB.

The way I see it, this is just the nature of the meme. People make memes, people take memes, and they travel around the world wide web, and end up with ifunny and 9gag and collegehumor watermarks, and in the form of badly cropped screenshots. That logo is just a scar that this wild meme picked up somewhere along the way. It’s just nature.

Most ‘nerd’ stuff. Comic book movie discussion has gone to shit because people have become weird about it. When it’s not manosphere bullshit, it’s people expecting Endgame level quality and stakes for every single movie now, who would’ve shat on Iron Man if it came out today, and who need to be reminded of the absolute horse shit that we used to get. They’re starting to rival the Star Wars fans in terms of being insufferable.

Outside of the cosy games spaces that I’ve been hanging around, all I ever hear from Gamers™ is some controversy about a female character being a game. Or gasp a black character. They’re happy with the main protagonist being a woman if the jiggle psychics are set to max though.

And online at least, the alternative scene has gone to shit. People from the anti jock subcultures started listening to jocks with microphones on podcasts. People who grew up listening to Jonathan Davis singing about being called a “faget”, went on to become people who call others “betas”. Metal went from representing rebellion to representing people who go “stop making it political”.

And so many ‘punks’ seem to have become Joe Rogan fans too. I’ve even had to argue with people calling me a “woke lefty” in fan spaces for The Clash. We all laughed when Joe Rogan said “conservative is the new punk” but it’s an even bigger joke because half the people that took his word for it were punks.

Same. The cosy games fandom tends to be alright though. Less neckbeards and people that hammer their own faces.

I don’t trust banking apps

Yeah, even banks are something that’s forced onto us, that you actually just can’t live without in the current system. I also tried fighting it for a bit but the bank I’m with is trying to eliminate ATMs and making it really difficult to do online banking the old school way. And afaik, other banks are trying to do the same now. Just a matter of time before a vanilla smartphone is as much of a requirement as a bank account itself.

Nah it’s really not convenient when it comes to things like banking apps that get fussy about how customised your phone is. It’s fine most of the time but you’re going to be running into issues at inconvenient times when you don’t really have the time to sit and play. Although I’m also talking a couple of years ago now, chances are things have improved.

Yeah you’re basically breaking everything. I did this before it was chic when I had a Nokia phone running Opera Mini lmao.

I tried it for a while. I got caught up in the ‘privacy’ crowd on Reddit and went all out for a bit. Even de-googled my Android phone at the time. It is inconvenient as fuck. And you’re going to be spending more time tinkering and looking for workarounds and alternate software than actually ever getting anything done. All just to stop an advertising company from detecting what you clicked on, or for the website owner to never get any telemetry.

Felt like talking about myself some more and where better than this post.

About the “they/them” in my username and personal pronouns in general. As far as real life goes, considering that I’m not officially “out”, and living in a fairly socially conservative country at that, I’m not enforcing anything on anyone.

Not going to expect that have known me my whole life thus far to change anything, although I guess if they did it would be a bonus. It’s also why I don’t mind confusing shop cashiers because that’s probably the closest thing to being recognised out in the wild that I could expect around here.

Although if I ended up with a group of friends that don’t need anything explained etc. I’d love to try out they/them and see how it really fits. I do get a little thrill when Facebook uses gender neutral pronouns for me eg. “Secret_Music updated their profile picture.” Or when someone in a comment section refers to me that way. But that’s about the extent of me actually experiencing it.

So all that said, the “they/them” in my username is in place of a non-binary flag emoji. But actually any pronouns are fine or whatever. And it’s not in my username to shove it down anyone’s throat or whatever. It’s just my only space where I can fly that flag without inviting things in that I’m not in the mood to deal with at this point. But I’ll revisit that thought when my personal life is a little less of a dumpster fire and I have more power.

I just want to say something regarding mainstream social media and why I’m making use of it because I know that people here rabidly hate it, and for good reason.

I’ve been practically a hermit for the last decade of my life and right now I really need to step out of my cottage in the woods and back into the world again. I’ve enjoyed being alone and finding myself but now that I’ve found myself, I want to find my people.

I have definitely found a lot of my people around here but I also need somewhere that I can show my face, and see the faces of the people who are like me too.

And as far as my country goes (South Africa), if I want to find groups, or find out where the clubs are, or start having any sort of offline social life again, I’m going to have to make use of mainstream social media, I’m afraid.

And for what it’s worth, I only really started using it again more regularly this year. And it’s an enshitified battlefield for sure.

It would be fantastic if the Fediverse could be true replacement for it all but it’s not even close yet. It’s a great little international online community of mostly cool people but it can’t be my only social life. Not anymore.
